Eppli Caka, or “Apple Cake”, was a traditional dessert growing up in the Faroe Islands. Still a favorite at my parent’s home, it is such a delicious healthy and simple dessert…. or breakfast!
Ingredients:
- Applesauce (homemade is definitely tastiest!)
- Granola (again, homemade wins!)
- 1-2 apples, cored and diced (optional)
- Whipped cream
- Chocolate (optional)
Alternate layers of applesauce, granola and apples. Top with whipped cream and sprinkle with chocolate chips. Serve immediately.

I never heard of the faroe islands until this post. What language is eppli caka?
Looks delicious!
“Eppli Cakka” is Faroese. My dad grew up in the Faroe Islands and I was born there. Even though the total population is only about 45,000 they have their own language but are under Denmark’s government. Unless you’re a geography teacher or world traveler, few people know it exists.
Yum, Anna! Keep these Faroese recipes coming (at least the sweet ones – my palatte isn’t really accustomed to um, large ocean species).
Lol–no whale blubber or “cured” lamb for you?
